pov (ft. vimvau) (2022)
single
i started joking about how pov is a demisexual anthem. i don't really make music like that, with a clear representation or ideal in mind. but that idea made sense for some people, and i think they felt represented in a way.
i always wanted to take the dembow (the reggaeton rhythmic base) and flip it over. usually reggaeton songs are all about the erotic and, particularly, about confidence. the singer is usually so secure of their value and don't have any problems shoving that in your face. i suppose we all need that confidence boost and that's why people have liked it for so long.
i wanted to contrast what we associate with the dembow with a total opposite: feeling insecure of someone's advance, and portraying all those fears. i always liked the idea of making it sound more naive, so the idea of that simple piano loop (it's literally tha grand piano from ableton) making a major arpeggio made perfect sense for that.
i was a very lonely teenager and didn't party during my highschool days when reggaeton started to boom here. so i always kind of resented it, not musically, but rather how i feel apart from the connections others were forming through it. eventually i got into some reggaeton artists much later (late 2010s-early 2020??) and i understood why people liked. nowadays not really into it tho.
